DIY Pom Pom Earrings are my jam! And today I am going to teach you how to make my favorite, our double drop earring!

If you have been hanging around here lately, you know that our Pom Pom Earrings fall under MY FAVORITE things. I wore them all fall and winter and now that summer is here, I have whipped up ever bright color under the sun to continue my trend!
Today on Good Day Charlotte, I am showing Charlotte how to make these beauties and I think everyone should know how to make these because they are the BEST!
PS. they are pretty to make for a gift if you can’t make it to our Crafty Dads workshop this weekend for Mother’s day!
In this post, you are going to find everything that you need to DIY your very own Double Drop Pom Pom Earrings. Hooray!!
So let’s get started!

Grab your supplies! This DIY is very simple and costs under $10. Your initial tools will be what is expensive but once you have all of your tools you can make these again and again for the super cheap cost of yarn!
- A pair of scissors with super sharp tips. I recommend these.
- Pom Pom Maker. I have tried other brands but when you cheap out on these, you can tell! Invest in a good pom pom maker and you won’t be sorry! This is my go to. Plus it comes in a set so you can do so many fun projects!
- Your color of Yarn (or two! You can never have too many pairs of pom pom earrings!)
- Gold Tubing
- Wire Cutters
- Earring Posts & Backings
- Thread
- Needle with a very thin head
Here we go!
Now that you have your supplies ready, we can get to the good stuff! Making Pom Poms is so much fun and super soothing (one time I made over 400 pom poms for an event! Jason, Megan and my mom helped me but it was ALOT of Pom Poms!)
For our Double Drop earrings, I use the two smaller

Grab your small machine and the end of your yarn. You won’t need to worry about cutting a length of your yarn, you can just pull from the ball so that you never have to worry about how much you need to cut.

Start to wrap! You will want to pull the legs on one side of the machine out to the side to start wrapping. Be careful not to get any of your strands on the feet of the machine!
Completely filled the first side of your machine with yarn. You will want the yarn to be flush with the feet like the image below. This makes your

Close the side of the machine wrapped in yarn. Once that is closed, open the other side of your machine and pull the strand over to that side.
Start to wrap some more!!

Repeat what you did on the other side until this side of your

Grab your scissors!
It’s time to cut! Grab your sharp tipped scissors. Like I mentioned earlier, you want the tips of your scissors to be nice and sharp because we are only working with the tip. Scissors that don’t have sharp ends will make your

Go all around your machine cutting in the middle.
PRO TIP: hold down the feet with your thumb of the side you are cutting to avoid the machines legs popping up!
Next up…
Once you have cut all the way around, snip about a 3-4 inch strand of yarn. Do not move the legs of the machine yet or you will end up a million tiny strands of yarn EVERYWHERE!!!

Take your losses strand and place around the middle of the machine. Pull this tightly and tie. I double knot mine to make sure that it stays nice and tight!
YOU MADE A POM POM! Hooray!
Now that you have tied the middle of your pom tightly together, you can start to take your pom pom machine apart to see your final product!

Once you have taken your

The hard part is over!
Now that you have made a pom pom, you are cooking with gas! Now you need to make one more of that size, and then make 2 of the smaller size.

The next step…
Now that you have all 4 of your pom poms put together, you are now ready to put them together!

Use your wire cutters to cut 2 lengths of your gold tubing. You will measure your tubbing based on the length of your neck. I like mine to be approx 2 inches long.

Thread the needle with your choice of thread. Keep in mind that your needle needs to be able to fit through the gold tubing!

Pick up your earring post and thread your needle and thread through the small hole. You are going to want to secure this by looping this through the hole twice.

Now thread your small

And that’s it! You have made your first double drop
