Friends + Flowers + Wine = An Amazingly Fun Girls Night!
Our Bells Box Collective Space was created to bring a little inspiration to our community and Boy Oh Boy, did we feel it flowing at our very first “open to the public” Floral Workshop!
During our 2 hour workshop, every seat in the house was taken as we dove into crafting up some seriously beautiful arrangements, just in time for Valentines Day!
After our guests were welcomed with sweet treats (I am still dreaming about these Pink Champagne Cookies…) and all had a glass of wine in hand, we started out our evening discussing the proper care and cleaning for our flowers.
BB Collective Tip: ALWAYS clean your flowers when you get them home. Most grocery stores and places that we get our flowers don’t clean out the water when they switch out stems. This causes lots of bacteria to build up and yep, you guessed it! Bacteria is what causes our flowers to lose their luster fast. To avoid this, and to keep from having nasty grocery store bacteria lingering around your house, rinse your blooms off in lukewarm water when you get them home.
After the cleaning and care techniques were covered, it was time to get our hands on those big beautiful blooms! For our Valentines Day line up, we choose to keep the color theme in line with pinks, whites, and greens to match the occasion. Each guest filled their flower buckets with their choice of peonies, hydrangeas, roses, tulips, dusty miller, eucalyptus, wax flowers and more.
Even though we were all working with the same flowers, allowing everyone to mix and match blooms and choose their own flowers for their pieces, created such diversity in each persons flower arrangements!
With flowers in hand, then we broke down the fundamentals of floral arrangements and provided hands on help to each of our students to help them create the perfect centerpiece for them to take home!
BB Collective Tip: Always start with a strong supporting cast of flowers and greenery to create your foundation or base. Once you have your base then you can add your focal flower or “hero” flower as we like to call it. You know, the one that really shines!! Once you have those in place, finish out your arrangement with filler flowers to add character and texture.
We ended the night with a happy heart and watched as 18 pretty centerpieces made their way to their new homes to brighten up another space!
We couldn’t have asked for a better night to kickstart our workshops at our sweet new studio. If you are feeling left out, the great news is that we are hosting another one March 29th. Join us as we use the prettiest flowers of the season to create gorgeous Spring Centerpieces, just in time for Easter!
